Introduction

A global civil aviation training material sharing system was established in 1987 by ICAO which had been very successful in developing global training material pool and sharing system in the Telecommunication and Maritime areas. Consequently TRAINAIR programme was initiated in May 1990 on the same lines to benefit the entire aviation community through resource sharing with regard to training development.

TRAINAIR unit of CATI was established under the UNDP project along with first six countries selected for establishment of such units.

This is a privilege for CAA Pakistan to be selected as a pioneer member country of a global TRAINAIR programme. Under this programme, aviation professionals of Civil Aviation Training Centres of the developing countries are trained as course developers (CDs), to prepare course material in the form of standardized training packages (STPs) through the application of a well established training development process. The material so developed is shared among the member countries under a global course material sharing system. This system operates on the basis of cooperation among participating CATCs, determining policy and development priorities. ICAO administers the system and provide training support to the CATCs (Management and the Course Developers) to assist them in the preparation of STPs. This is achieved through regular TRAINAIR coordination conferences, Course developers Seminars that are attended by senior officials and active course developers from the participating CATCs.
